Scores? The day of my auditing exam was the last time I wrote in this. It is really ridiculous that I haven't gotten the score yet for this computerized exam! I took it almost 3 months ago. There are rumors that it is taking so long because they extended the test window through the first week of September. NASBA, September is supposed to be an off month; what are you doing? I have also heard that they select which exams are going to be in the first wave of scoring randomly. Maybe I'm one of the unlucky people who took the exam in the first week of the test window but wasn't selected for the first wave of scores? NASBA, where are my scores! I'm probably going to get my audit and regulation scores on the same day. Last time I got two scores on the same day, it didn't go well for audit. Seriously, NASBA this is torture. WHERE ARE MY SCORES!?!!!

Too many vacation days? The past few days are the most consecutive days off from work I've had since I started working. Technically only two of them were actual vacation days but still the whole time was pretty much spent studying. I've now taken two days and 6.5 hours of vacation time this year. I hope that some of the remaining days taken will be to do something other than study maybe even something fun.

Summer plans Busy season is over, reviews are taking place and I'm unofficially a "staff 2" now. Summer hours start on May 21st (come in a half hour early every day to leave earlier on Friday). My next exam is scheduled for July 5th. Unfortunately, my fund of funds are starting to pick up now since the deadline is 6/30 and right after that one of my offshore funds has a 6/30 year end so the audit will have to be done in July. Basically, most of my studying needs to be done after work and on the weekends since I might not have much time to study during work. This means I only have 6 weekends to really study (counting this weekend and not counting next weekend when I have to go to my friend's bridal shower or the weekend of her wedding). Since I'll get out of work at 3 on Fridays when summer hours start, and I took July 2-3 off, and the 4th I already had off I'll be able to spend that whole week before the exam studying too. Since I can't take any exams during busy season, I really need to pass all 3 of these before the first week of January. Really NEED to pass, there is no if. Next exam after that will be August 25th and the 3rd will be in October.

Workaholic In college, last year especially, people used to always call me a workaholic because I was involved in a lot of activities and liked to stay busy. I also thought that the "real world" would be better than being in school because once the work day is over you have the rest of the day to just relax instead of having to do homework or studying. I couldn't be more wrong.
Busy season has been in full swing since January 3rd, I haven't had a Saturday off since 2006. When I started working back in the fall, working 9-5:30 with an hour lunch break seemed like a full work day. When I started having to work 9-8-8:30, leaving at 5:30 started to feel like leaving early. Then when I started having to work until 10-11, leaving at 8 felt early. Lately, the past few Saturdays I've had to stay until 6-6:30 instead of 3pm like back in January. I even had to go into work on a Sunday a couple weeks ago which was really unpleasant. In addition, I still have exams to study for. I definitely have less free time now than in college. Occasionally someone will want to hang out, which really only leaves Saturday night because I don't like to stay out late on Friday since I have work in the morning and Sunday is when I have to do all of my errands. As soon as busy season ends the exams will start up again. The worst part is that I've started drinking more coffee to make sure I stay alert later in the day with the last cup being around 6. This is really messing up my sleep schedule since my body thinks it should still be awake for a few hours more when I get home. Four more days until my day off.

What happens when the music stops On my way out of the gym tonight, a cute guy was walking in front of me out the door.Since I had headphones on and he was walking in front of me, I didn't realize he was talking to me until he turned and glanced at me. When I took off my headphones and apologized and asked what he said, he goes "Oh I was just mentioning about how I want to stay warm but I don't want to get my nice jacket gross" I told him to maybe bring a sweatshirt (he was in a t-shirt) as that seemed to be working for me... we shared a quick laugh and then I was at my car.
Another example of how someone seemingly cute became less attractive after talking to them.

23 in 2007 Happy New Year and thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. It was weird, it was the first birthday I didn't spend at home with my family. It was also the first birthday where it never really felt like my birthday. I don't think that is a coincidence. I spent my birthday by waking up with a cold, went to work from 8:30-8, grabbed a quick dinner with a friend and then went to sleep, pretty exciting. I was thinking of having a party Saturday night to celebrate, but that isn't going to happen now since I'm sick. I hope 2007 gets better than it started out, and best wishes to everyone else!

Since I only update this about once a month... here is an update For those of you who don't know, next week is Thanksgiving (if you didn't know you should seriously consider getting a calendar, they are handy things to have).
Actual conversation heard this morning:
"Did you see those wild turkeys outside the building?" (note: I didn't see these turkeys)
"Wild turkeys? Too bad we can't just shoot it for a free dinner"
Most supermarkets are giving away free turkeys nowadays. I don't spend a lot on groceries and even I got a coupon for a "free turkey". Please if you see a wild turkey outside a building, don't kill it with the idea you'll get a free dinner. You don't know where that wild animal has been (and the people nearby will think you are crazy...)
I'm sure I'll post again in Dec (if you're lucky...)

pretty cool I have my very own cubicle (with my name outside on the wall!). How cool is that? One of the managers has the same first initial/ last name combo as I do though, so for the first time ever I have to add numbers at the end of everything.
I am an adult now...

5.25 again This is interesting: http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/28FJQ67NrgwkPR8lLgBwbw2?siteid=myyahoo&dist=TNMostRead
Basically, the Federal Funds rate is still 5.25%. FOMC took a break this month and didn't raise rates. I wonder what is going to happen on Sept. 20.

Reflection on past summers... On my way to the gym today, I could hear the PA system from Roycefield announce their sprint meet. I kind of miss those swim team days, it feels so long ago.

Money Money Money When I was getting my CPA application notarized today, the notary was impressed that I was sitting for my CPA. He had gone to Rutgers for accounting but didn't want to be an accountant... so he became a notary (he said his Mom worked there so he went to school for free).
I was also asked to be a guest on a radio show for WAER in Syracuse. The interview is going to be sometime next week and the show will air on June 22. The topic is how women approach investing. BR who manages the Ballentine Investment Institute at Syracuse referred me to them.
It seems crazy to think that last month I was worried about finals and graduation was looming and now I am studying for the exam I have heard about for 4 years and will be a guest on a radio show. Time sure flies by...

The summer plans of a college graduate... This summer I am going to attempt to battle the beast known as the CPA exam. Wish me luck!
I'll also have to find an apartment, buy a car and do other things related to starting out in the real world. Fun.

End of this chapter... This weekend I am graduating from college. Wow.
Freshman year feels like it just happened but also that it was so long ago. Recently, I've seen a bunch of people around campus that I hadn't seen since freshman year. It really makes everything seem like its coming full circle.
This summer will be the longest I will be at home since I left for college after high school. It is a weird feeling for sure.
Hopefully, these really weren't the best years of my life, it seems like the next life step is always better than the last.

First sign that the G-word is looming... Since I have to go a Whitman Ambassador thing next week, I think tonight was my last Investment Club meeting. This was the first club I joined at SU, and I'm gonna miss it (even if I was basically the only girl at the meetings all semester). TT (current PM) jokingly suggested it just be used for options trading once the Orange Value Fund got underway. While that is risky, I hope the club finally does trade options.

Thank you Mr. Spears. This past Sunday was Easter. In chem in high school, my teacher made up for the fact that we didn't have a real class room for the first couple months (love that construction) by letting us basically blow up whatever we wanted, whenever. One day, we studied the effects of pressure on a peep. It wasn't pretty.
I have so much stuff to do these next few weeks that I feel like that peep...

If anything, this will help you catch your Zzzzzs The RISE conference was fun. http://www.som.syr.edu/newsroom/news.aspx?id=339
The panels on the first day were interesting. A member from the Fed Bank of Ohio was less than thrilling... but the Fed had just made an announcement a couple days before the conference so he couldn't really talk about anything. The next day, I went to a few breakout sessions. One on trading credit in bankrupt companies was interesting. I also went to one on evaluating hedge funds that might come in handy next year. Cong. Oxley's presentation was a let down. It was held in a basketball court (resembling HHS's) and his mic was so low that I couldn't hear anything he said. Friday night, we went to an Air Force museum. The planes were cool.
DM and I also met some people from other schools which was interesting. One of them was starting up his own hedge fund, so he kept telling me that he wanted to keep in contact... don't know about that.
WSOM also launched a value fund, but it seems like I came to school a couple years too early to be a part of it. http://www.som.syr.edu/newsroom/news.aspx?id=338 Would have been cool to manage a million dollars.
In other news:
Planning this banquet is such a pain. Nothing is working out like it should, but I guess that is how character is built.
A lot of my friends went home for Easter, so there isn't anything exciting here to do.
